Frequently Asked Questions - RipCast Streaming Audio Ripper

  1. RipCast Agent doesn't open when I click 'Tune-In', why?

    RipCast Agent should appear when you click 'Tune-In' links in the station browser. If for some reason RipCast Agent does not appear. Please try these steps to get it to function properly.
    1. Open 'Windows Explorer / My Computer'.
    2. Open menu 'Tools'->'Folder Options'
    3. Select 'File types' Tab.
    4. In the 'Registered Filetypes' list. Select the 'PLS' entry.
    5. Click the 'Change...' button to change the filetype association.
    6. Browse and/or select 'RipCast Agent 1.1'. Press 'OK'

    Tune-In links should now open with RipCast Agent. You may need to close and re-open RipCast.


  2. 'Tune In' links will not open in RipCast.
    Problems with 'Tune In' links not opening in RipCast will be a problem with the *.pls filetype association. *.pls filetypes must be associated with RipCast for 'Tune In' links to work. Please follow the steps below to manually associate *.pls filetypes with RipCast.
    1. Open RipCast
    2. Open 'My Computer / Windows Explorer'
    3. Open menu 'Tools'->'Folder Options'
    4. Select 'File types' Tab
    5. In the 'Registered Filetypes' list. Select the 'PLS' entry
    6. Click the 'Change...' button to change the filetype association
    7. Browse and/or select 'RipCast Streaming Audio Ripper'. Press 'OK'
    8. Test the 'Tune In' links in RipCast's Station Browser


    Tune-In links should now open with RipCast. You may need to close and re-open RipCast for the changes to take effect.


  3. I unselected the 'Always ask before opening this type of file' check box in the Open/Save dialog for 'Tune In' links(pls filetype links). I want to be prompted with the 'File Download' window after I click 'Tune In' links. How do I see this window again?
    You will see this 'File Download' dialog the first time you use RipCast, after clicking a 'Tune In' link in the station browser. You may have unselected the 'Always ask before opening this type of file' check box for pls filetypes. This will auto 'Save/Open' *.pls file after you click a 'Tune In' link. If you want this dialog window to appear again, you can follow these steps to reset this setting.
    1. Open RipCast
    2. Open 'My Computer / Windows Explorer'
    3. Open menu 'Tools'->'Folder Options'
    4. Select 'File types' Tab
    5. In the 'Registered Filetypes' list. Select the 'PLS' entry
    6. The 'Details for "PLS" filetype' should be 'Opens with: RipCast Streaming Audio Ripper'
    7. Click the Advanced button
    8. Check the 'Confirm open after download' checkbox. Press 'OK' buttons until done
    9. Test the 'Tune In' links in RipCast's Station Browser


    You should now see the 'File Download' dialog again, asking if you want to Save or Open the file, each time you click a 'Tune In' link.
