How to Use a Template...

To create a document using your template:
  1. Use the File/New command from the menu at the top of the screen.
  2. In Word 97 and Word 2000 you will see your template on the General tab. In Word 2002 (XP), you can find your template by choosing General Templates in the "New from existing document" section of the Document pane. (Note: if you saved your template in a folder other than the default folder, your template will reside on the tab matching the folder's name. See the Template Locations discussion below.)
  3. Select the template you want to use (click once on its icon).
  4. In the lower right corner of the Templates dialog box you'll see a "Create New" section. Be sure the New Document option is selected.
  5. Create your document. When you are done, save it with the familiar .doc file extension.
A Step-by-Step Guide To Creating CD and DVD Inserts, Booklets, and Labels:
  1. Select File | New from the menu above, and click on the CD template of your choice. Note that there are several formats supported. Select the one appropriate to your location, labels, and needs.
  2. Once inside the new document, MAKE SURE THAT GRIDLINES ARE SHOWING (From the menu at the top, choose table, and click on GRIDLINES if they are not showing).
  3. NOTE: When you first open the template, you will see several sample designs. Simply select the text of a label/case or all of the labels/cases with your mouse and hit the delete key on your keyboard or use Edit | Cut from the menu to clear the contents. You can then enter your own text and images.
NOTE About Macros: Depending on your security options in Word, you may not be able to run the macros included in the template. To enable the macros, change your Word macro security settings. You can do this with the Tools menu: point to Macro, and then click Security. Change to a lower security option, such as Medium. Answer yes to enable macros when the CD Label and Jewel Case Creator templates are used.
  4. To change the colors of the lines - use the Format | Borders and Shading menu item when you are inside an item of which you want to change the line color.
  5. Specific instructions for each template follow these instructions. ! More Information on basic operations, table management, and copying and pasting may be found in the Word User's Guide, or from online help from the Help menu above. Please Note: Before Printing on Labels or Jewel Case Card Stock, Print first on Paper to Check for any Errors. To adjust margins by whatever amount, use Tables, Select Table, then Table Properties and adjust the Cell Height and Width and/or Column Spacing.

Frequently Asked Questions - CD and DVD Jewel Case and Label Creator for Word

  1. Q: I just installed the CD and DVD Label Creator product but I cannot find the templates when I start Microsoft Word. Where are they?
A: Have no fear - this relatively common problem can be easily solved. Because many of you have various configurations for Microsoft Word, sometimes our automatic installer cannot properly locate the templates folder on your system. This folder holds your Microsoft Word templates, and also is where our installer tries to put the CD Label Creator templates.

To fix this problem, you need to find your templates folder. To do this, start Microsoft Word. Next, click on Tools, then Options, then click the File Locations Tab. From there, double-click on the User Templates folder and keep track of this location. Note: When you double-click on the User templates option you may then need to hit the UP arrow next toe folder name to figure out exactly where the folder is on your system.
Next, run the installer for the CD and DVD Label Creator and specify this folder.
Finally, start Word, and hit File | New. Select the Templates from Your Computer as the option. You should then see a listing of templates created by the CD and DVD Label Creator .
