Frequently Asked Questions - A.A.L. Alien Eliminator

  1. I get an error message. Something about DirectX. What is that?

DirectX extends the functionality of Windows so that you can take full advantage of the multimedia capabilities of your computer. Normally some version of DirectX comes preinstalled with Windows. There are however upgrades to DirectX every once in a while. Most likely your problems will disappear when you download the current version directly from Microsoft (it's free).

  2. I downloaded the setup file but I cannot execute it.

Sometimes, when you download a file, some part of it gets lost somewhere. Please delete the setup file, delete the temporary internet files, disable download accelerators that you might use, and download the setup file again. Everything should work fine then. (On a Windows-System that is. All of the games on TaipanGames.com are for Windows only.)

  3. How can I download a game from your website? Never done that before.

To download a file means to copy a file from my computer to your computer over the internet. Let's do that step by step:
Select the game you want to play.
Click on the "Free Demo" or on the "Download Free Trial" button.
What happens next depends on your browser (Internet Explorer or Mesilla or whatever you use). Some browsers will start do download immediately but most will ask you wither to open the file directly or to save the file on your hard disk. Select "save".
Now you will have to select where to save the file on your computer. Please remember the location. You will need it later.
The download starts now. Depending on your internet connection speed that may take a couple of seconds or as long as some minutes. Most browsers show you some progress bar so that you know how long it is likely to take. When the download is finished, the setup-file of the game is on your machine and ready to execute.
Most browsers let you open the file directly by double-clicking or by means of an "open" button. If yours doesn't then go to the location where you saved the file and double-click the setup-file there.
    Follow the onscreen instructions.

  4. The full version looks exactly like the demo version and it asks me to register!

That is because you are still running the demo! There are no registration reminders or any other limitations in the full version. Most players download the demo first and then upgrade to the full version. Sometimes it happens then that you select some different folder for the full version so that the demo version is still where it has always been and so are your shortcuts.

To fix this problem uninstall the demo first and run the installer of the full version again. If you got a registration code instead of a full version file then please enter that code to unlock the demo. Where exactly this code must be entered depends on the game but in no game that correct spot is difficult to find.

  5. What are the hardware requirements of the full versions?

That obviously depends on the game; but the requirements of the full version are always the same as the requirements of the demo version. So you played the demo and liked it? Don't worry. The full version will run just as well as the demo does.

  6. When I alt-tab the game crashes. What happened?

That problem was fixed some versions back. Please uninstall the game, download again, and upgrade to the current version.

  7. I installed the game but the window doesn't fit my screen. What can I do?

That happens sometimes when you install the game on a computer with some unusual screen resolution. I'll fix this in the next version. For the time being click on "options" and then on "graphics". Now you can select fullscreen mode and a screen resolution that fits your machine.

  8. The game reacts somewhat slowly. Can I help that?

This game features a 3d-engine so the rendering can be quite expensive at times but even older computers should have no problems to handle that these days. Try to click on "options" in the main menu. Then on "graphics". If possible select "hall" as the rendering device to take advantage of your graphics hardware.
