ArtStudio Drawing Program 2005 - User Guide and FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions - ArtStudio Drawing Program

  1. Why can't I rub the colors?
The rub size may be too small. You can change the rub size just like you change the size of the brush. To change the rubbing size, first click on the Rub Mode button (it looks like a finger) and then click on one of the larger brush sizes. There may be times that you want a small rub size and other times a large rub size. Experiment with the sizes to get a good feel for how they work. NOTE: If you change the brush size in Draw Mode, it will not change the brush size you set while in Rub Mode.

  2. How do I play a sound?
On the left side of ArtStudio is the layer toolbar. One of the buttons will display the Layer Properties. Every layer can play a sound. On the Start & Finish tab you can select a .wav or .mp3 file. Be careful, sound files can be very large which could greatly increase the size of your artwork file.
Currently, only .wav & .mp3 files are supported. There are a lot of sites on the internet where you can download them.

  3. Why are parts of the Color Palette missing?
You probably changed the size of the font you are using with Windows. You should select "Reset ArtStudio" from the File menu and then close ArtStudio. When you restart ArtStudio, the Color Palette should look correct.

  4. I select the small paint brush size but when I draw it is still fairly large.
If you are using a WACOM tablet, you can control the "tip feel" by going to Control Panel - Wacom Tablet. You may want to increase the stiffness.

  5. What is "Save for distribution"?
If you create an artwork file with ArtStudio that contains images, a copy of the images are stored in the artwork file. If the images are large high-quality images, the artwork file will be large. That's ok unless you want to e-mail it to someone or display it on your website. ArtStudio allows you to change the size of the image and reduce the quality in order to greatly reduce the size of the artwork file? Here's what you should do:

1- Click on the Next Layer or Previous Layer buttons until the image you want to modify is the current layer.

2- Click on the Show/Hide Properties button on the left-hand side of ArtStudio to display the Layer Properties dialog.

3- Click on the Image tab.

4- Click on the JPG button to see the size of the image when stored in the JPG format and then click on the "eye" to see what it looks like.

5- As you adjust the quality, you will see what the image will look like and the size. This is where you trade size for quality.

6- Now this is important, the artwork file you are working on will always contain the original high quality image. The quality & size will not be applied until you select "Save for distribution" or save it as an E-mail Art.
