Common Issues in Recording Streaming Video

Usually, due to specific display hardware related optimizations employed by players, Huelix ScreenPlay might record black, blank videos. This is not a limitation of Huelix ScreenPlay itself, but rather a manifestation of optimization techniques.

The solution is to manually turn off hardware acceleration from the Display control panel applet. This is accessible as follows:

Display Properties - Settings - Advanced - Troubleshooting and moving the Hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left (None). Once you have finished recording, please remember to set it back to its old position.

If your player is the Windows Media Player (9 or higher), it has an option to do this from the player itself. See Options - Performance tab for details.

Frequently Asked Questions - Huelix ScreenPlay

  1. When I stop recording, it takes a long time to actually stop. Is that a bug?
Not really. Huelix ScreenPlay keeps video data in memory for processing, to maximize performance. If your system has plenty of memory, Huelix ScreenPlay will make use of that to produce the best quality capture possible. Data in the buffer is fully compressed and written to the file when you hit "Stop Capture". You will notice that for small windows and regions, Huelix ScreenPlay stops without noticeable delay.

  2. Can I record audio from any input line?
Absolutely. Usually this device is a microphone. You can also record from other lines such as CD-audio, Line-in etc. You can also record from the mixer - that is, capture the audio output; system sounds, music being played - just about anything.
