Frequently Asked Questions - Ultra Screen Saver Maker

  1. I was successful in registering USSM, but I am still getting the unregistered notice running accross the screen.
If you can find your name in Help/About, then you have successfully registered Ultra Screen Saver Maker. If you still experience unregistered notice running across the screen, please rebuild the screen saver you are using - simply open the project and make screen saver again.

  2. Should I download the beta version?
It is important to understand that pre-release beta software may not be fully debugged. We, like other software vendors, post pre-release versions of our software to give existing customers a chance to try the new features, comment on them, and report any problems. If you are not familiar with USSM, then we recommend that you not download the pre-release version, and instead download the release version of USSM. On the other hand, if you are interested in trying new features and willing to report any problems, you are encouraged to give pre-release version a try.

  3. If I buy USSM and generate screen saver with it, does anyone I give it have to buy USSM, too?
Generated screen savers can be distributed freely to anyone with no restrictions of any kind. One will be able to see and install generated screen savers without registration or installation of USSM.

  4. How can I share a screensaver with my family and friends?
A created screensaver installation file is a normal file. You can copy/delete/rename it like any other file on your hard drive.

You can send a screensaver via email as an attachment directly from USSM (File/Send via e-mail), use Outlook Express or any other email program,
You can upload it to a website using BulletProof FTP, CuteFTP or other FTP program, then tell people the download URL,
You can copy the screensaver to a CD-ROM. To copy a screensaver to a CD-ROM, like any other file, you will need a CD recorder and a CD burner software (Nero Burning ROM, Easy CD Creator or similar). Please refer to your CD recorder documentation for details about this issue.

  5. How can I edit a screensaver I created?
After you created a .exe screensaver installation, you cannot reload and edit it. If you think you will want to edit your screensaver in the future (and we are pretty sure you will), you should save a project file before you build the screensaver. A screensaver project is a .ssp file which contains all the data necessary to create your screensaver again.

  6. Can I install generated screen saver as Windows default without displaying dialog box first?
In order to have quiet installation as Windows default screen saver (without dialog box), use /I switch when starting self-installing screen saver. E.g. if you have created a file ss.exe, please use "ss.exe /i" to install it as Windows default screen saver promptly.

  7. With a 20 kb Flash file, the generated screensaver turns to be over 1 Mb. Why?
Besides Flash file itself, the generated screen saver contains several libraries including official Macromedia Flash player installation, to ensure your screensaver will be properly displayed on every PC.
