Backup Your Data

Manual Backup/Restore:

Remind-Me stores your event information in a single file. The name of this data file is "mydata.bdy", and it is located in the C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Remind-Me folder. To safeguard your event data, periodically make a backup copy of this file. In the event you must restore mydata.bdy, simply copy it back into this folder when Remind-Me is not running. Remind-Me can't be running or hidden to the task tray when copying mydata.bdy, use "File/Exit" to quit Remind-Me before copying over this file.

The "Application Data" folder is usually a hidden folder. In order to view this folder in Windows Explorer use "Tools / Folder Options... / View" and turn on the option "Show hidden files and folders".

Automatic Backup:

Each time Remind-Me exits it will automatically make a backup copy of your mydata.bdy file in the "Backup" sub-folder. The backed up copies will have a number appended to the filenames. By default, Remind-Me will keep up to 30 of your most recent data files backed up. If you need to restore your mydata.bdy file from an automatic backup copy, use the file's modified time/date to determine which copy to restore.

Frequently Asked Questions - Remind-Me

  1. How do I select an End Date for my event?

In order for the "End Date" to be available, you must select the "Scheduled" event type, and also change the "Frequency..." to something other than "One Time". You should then see the optional end date control.

  2. How do I send an email reminder to more than 1 recipient?

To send email reminders to multiple recipients, just separate the email addresses with a comma.

  3. How do I add my holidays to the calendar?

Holidays can either be manually added, just like any other event, or you can import holidays into your calendar. To import holidays, first download your desired holidays in an iCalendar (*.ics) format. One popular place to download calendar events (including holidays) is iCalShare.com. You can then import this iCalendar file into Remind-Me with "File / Options... / Import / Import File...".

  4. How do I set the age of the person for my birthday reminders?

When recording the birth date, enter the year in which they were born.

  5. Why do I keep getting reminded of events that have passed?

You must "acknowledge" an event once you no longer wish to be reminded about that event occurrence.

To acknowledge an event place a check mark in the box to the left of that event in the Alarm dialog. You can control the default state of this check mark in the Alarm dialog with the "File / Options... / Prompts / Due Events Default to Acknowledged" option.
