Frequently Asked Questions - Tcal Calendar

  1. Why Tcal?

Making this calendar because every FileMakerPro calendar shows the limits of the FMP interface. With Tcal you can now have a functional graphic calendar to connect and modify your databases.

  2. Why not just a plugin?

A Plugin usually records calendar data to the database, but does not allow flowing of data in the other direction: on the calendar we needed to show job and resource lists, so to be able to create events linked to them.

  3. When I start TcalServer, using Applescript to connect to the FMP 8 databases, Tcalserver launches FMP6, why?

Tcalserver cannot detect if on you PC you have both version of the FMP application (6 and 8). Launch FMP8 before starting TcalServer.

  4. I use TcalServer with "Instant web Publishing" and FMP8. but Tcalserver does not connect...

TcalServer, now, cannot connect to FMP8 using "Instant web Publishing" (only FMP6).

  5. How do I add resources to an event?

Tcal supports "drag and drop". Drag the resource over the event rectangle. Or double-click on the event and click on each resource you want to add (the "?" sign means that the resource ha not confirmed yet).

  6. When I start TcalServer, there always is a window saying "database error".

One or more then one database field name is wrong. Compare field names and change the database accordingly.

  7. When I start Tcalserver, I get a message saying "the...xxx..file is not correct".

One or more then one database field name is wrong or is of the wrong type. Compare field names and change the database accordingly.

  8. I started Tcalserver but the Tcal calendar cannot connect to it.

Check Tcal preferences: the IP number must be the IP number of the PC where you installed TcalServer. Check Tcalserver preferences for correct user data: name, password, IP number (where you installed Tcal) and access level. Check the Port number (TcalServer general prefs): must be available and not used by other application. Check the connection (intranet or Internet).
