Frequently Asked Questions - Moon Phase Oracle Std

  1. Why does Tidal information provide information until 2037?
Tidal Information is provided by the WXTIDE32 Interface. WXTIDE32 is itself an application and Version 4.2 has harmonic values limited to the year 2037. This provides you with over 30 years of tidal information. Moon Phase Oracle will continue to support WXTIDE32 via updates.

  2. When Tidal Information is displayed there is no information and the description shows as "Error: Sydney.....", what type of error is this?
Single click on the error description and a pop-up window will display the whole error description. If it states that the "Station..... is not listed" enter a location from the location setting which exists in WXTIDE32.

  3. Do Solunar Periods occur in areas outside of the marine environment?
Solunar periods are based upon the peak influence in relation to the gravitation effect of the Moon and Sun. All harmonic constants (as used for Tidal predictions) are filtered out when calculating Solunar Periods. Solunar Theory has been used for Fishing (both marine and freshwater) and Hunting. There also have been studies to support the effect of the Moon on horticulture.

  4. What setting should be used for the length of the Minor and Major Activity Solunar Periods?
In John Alden Knight's original theory a period of approximately 1 hour for a Minor Period and 2 hours for a Major Period applied. Moon Phase Oracle uses these period durations as a default and allows you to adjust the periods to reflect your observations and improve your targeting.

  5. How did Solunar Theory begin?
John Alden Knight originally published the Solunar Theory in 1942, he revised that theory after many years of practice and refinement.

  6. What setting should be used for the Activity Time Adjustment for Solunar Periods?
In John Alden Knight's original theory adjustments for between 1 and 2 hours are made to reflect the estimated time of an effect to take place. With Moon Phase Oracle there is no adjustment made by default. We recommend that observations be made before any adjustments so that your specific targeting is more accurate.
