Frequently Asked Questions - PC TimeCop

  1. I've enabled too many options and have locked myself out of Windows!
If you have WatchDog v6.0 and above, you may have created a "Backup Admin" account. If so, this account has the same password as the original Parent User you created. The account is hidden from the login screen, but you may simply type "Backup Admin" (no "s) in the user field, and the correct password in the password field.

  2. Why doesn't the option "Use Windows' Background properties" work on my system?
This option will not work if you have Active Desktop enabled. You may disable Active Desktop by right-clicking on your desktop. In the popup menu, select Active Desktop and then uncheck View As Web Page.

  3. Why aren't some security settings working?
If you have "Do not modify Windows policy settings" in the Options - General tab enabled, WatchDog cannot control many aspects of Window's security.
To allow WatchDog to properly secure Windows, please disable "Do not modify Windows policy settings".

  4. Why can't I use Multiple Passwords when using Windows Login Integration?
When you use Windows Login Integration, Windows handles all of the login validation and passwords. Since you are using the Windows Login Screen, WatchDog cannot allow for multiple passwords.

  5. How come I keep getting the WatchDog Setup screen every time I try to log in as a user?
This problem is caused by WatchDog not being able to properly setup registry permission so that all users can access the WatchDog configuration in a secure environment.
To solve this problem, you will need to let WatchDog run the setup again in a Windows Administrator's account.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Log into a Windows Administrator account, and into a WatchDog Parent User account.
    2. Go into the main WatchDog Screen.
    3. Select File | Export... from the main menu. Select Configuration, Networking and all of your users for what to export, and then save it to a file.
    4. Now, select Help | Uninstall from the menu.
    5. Select Reset Configuration from the Uninstall program.
    6. Once completed, close the Uninstall program and start WatchDog again.
    7. Go through the setup process.
    8. Log into your Parent User account, and go to the main WatchDog Screen.
    9. Go to File | Import... from the main menu. Select the file you previously exported, and import all of your old data.
