To Use Melodic ID

  1. Click 'Next Question' to begin.
  2. Click light blue rhythm pattern buttons to notate rhythm.
  3. Click any beat to be corrected, then click correct pattern button.
  4. Click 'Score Rhythm' to score rhythm notation.
  5. Click 'Repeat' and click the screen keyboard to notate melody.
  6. Click 'Check Melody' to find pitch errors. Repeat and correct as necessary.
  7. Click any note to be corrected, then click correct keyboard note(s).
  8. Click 'Score Melody' to score pitch notation.
  9. Program records repeats per question and overall average number of repeats. Practice to reduce overall repeats.


Frequently Asked Questions - Melodic ID

  1. How to make Rhythm pattern corrections?

    First, click the square (beat) to be corrected. And then click the button representing the correct beat pattern. The program advances automatically to the next box (beat). Or, you may click another beat elsewhere and correct.


  2. How to make individual pitch corrections?

    First, click the note head (or the space) of the pitch to be corrected. And then click the key on the screen keyboard for the correct pitch. You may continue to correct the immediately following notes without clicking the screen notation again; Or you may click another note elsewhere and correct.


  3. How to spell a diminished fifth above a note?

    There are 5 different, adjacent note-names in any 5th.
    1. Begin with the note-name of the lower note and count up 5 adjacent note-names.
    2. Adjust the upper note-name with a sharp or a flat if necessary, so that the interval includes 6 half-steps.


  4. How to spell an augmented second above a note?

    There are 2 different, adjacent note-names in any 2nd.
    1. Begin with the note-name of the lower note and count up 2 adjacent note-names.
    2. Adjust the upper note-name with a sharp or a flat if necessary, so that the interval includes 3 half-steps.
