Scientific Letter - User Guide and FAQ

Screenshots - More Details

How easy is it to install and configure the scientific mailer?

You only enter the activation code once during the installation process of the scientific mailer.
During the configuration process, you setup the connection with outgoing and incoming mail servers.
Message Editor of The Scientific Mailer

Why is a popup window and not a toolbar used for entering math symbols and math formula?

This provides the user with a faster and more comfortable way of working. You can find more details in the Typesetting-Oriented Interface section. A toolbar takes up a considerable part of the screen and creates a labyrinth effect while searching for the necessary element. In popup window you can find any math symbols and math formula much more fast.

Why does the message editor have a non-standard menu?

There are several reasons for this. First, most work in the message editor is done with the keyboard. Second, the uniformity of the message editor interface is maintained. Third, this considerably saves space on the screen. (This is especially obvious when the screen resolution is 640x480 or 800x600.) Lastly, one window contains all functions that would otherwise be located in several submenus. This way, it is also easier to search for a rarely used command.

Why does the editor menu lack the "Save" command?

The "Save" command is out of date. It was necessary only when personal computers just appeared and a software could not be sure that the necessary disk is in the drive. At present, there are reliable mechanisms for cancelling actions and going back a certain number of steps...up to the original state of the mail message before editing was even started. Saving such small document as mail message does not slow down the user's work. Instead, the user does not have to care about saving the mail message regularly.
It is worth mentioning that the scrollbar usability is very doubtful and they are not user-friendly at all.

What data are saved if the computer is turned off?

All the entered data are saved, possibly except for the last action.

How will the mailer react to receiving letters from future versions?

There should not be any problems. If the math mailer comes across any unknown math symbol, it will be replaced with a "?". If it comes across an unknown math formula, the entire formula will be replaced with the "?" characters. On the whole, we suppose that the data format will not be considerably revised in future version.
