How to use Chat Watch Professional

  1. Test Chat Watch before it is used by other users. This is a very important recommendation. For best results, after installing and configuring Chat Watch please become familiar with Chat Watch by letting it log some test instant messages. By doing this, you will become to accustomed to Chat Watch and its features. This will also help you to determine if any of the following recommendations would be helpful.

  2. Install Chat Watch in a different location. When installing Chat Watch, you have the option of which folder to install Chat Watch to. The default folder is C:\Program Files\CW4. You can select a different location, something more inconspicuous as C:\Windows\ZS, and not affect Chat Watch's operation.

  3. Rename the cw4.exe file. When Chat Watch is running, you may notice it in the Processes list of the Task Manager on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. While it is impossible to remove a process from this list, you can rename the cw4.exe file so it is not as noticeable. You may rename cw4.exe to any file name as long as it ends in .exe. Examples include: zs.exe, myapp.exe, sola.exe, and so on.

  4. Use the Advanced Hot Key option. If you are using the Simple Hot Key option, it is possible that the user of the computer may discover Chat Watch is running by accidentally pressing the hot key. You can avoid this by setting Chat Watch to use the Advanced Hot Key. The Advanced Hot Key differs from the Simple Hot Key in that the Advanced Hot Key is a collection of three hot keys that must be pressed in the correct order.   1. What is the hotkey doing?
    The hot key is an important feature of Chat Watch. By pressing the hot key you will have access to Chat Watch and the chat logs. The hot key is only enabled when Chat Watch is in Stealth Mode. When in Normal Mode, Chat Watch is accessible by double-clicking its icon in the system tray.

  2. How to use the hotkey?
    By default, the hot key is CTRL+F6 but this can be changed by the user. To change the hot key, click the Settings icon on Chat Watch's main screen and then click Hot Key under Security. Simple Hot Key The simple hot key is a combination of two keys that when pressed simultaneously will cause Chat Watch to be shown. Advanced Hot Key The advanced hot key is a combination of three simple hot keys. For example, the first hot key can be set to CTRL+F3, the second to CTRL+F4, and the third to CTRL+F5. In this case, Chat Watch will only be shown once those three hot keys have been pressed in the correct order. The advanced hot key is used to prevent unauthorized users from "guessing" Chat Watch's hot key simply by trying all possible combinations.

    To archive chats to a zip file, select the chats to archive by placing a check mark by the desired chat logs in the list. Next, click Archive from the Tools menu. The Archive window will be shown and you will be able to select a file name for the archive and optionally a password.

    The zip file created is a standard zip file readable by any zip-compatible program such as WinZip or as a Windows XP compressed folder. To archive chats to a zip file, select the chats to archive by placing a check mark by the desired chat logs in the list. Next, click Archive from the Tools menu. The Archive window will be shown and you will be able to select a file name for the archive and optionally a password.


  5. What should I do to change password or if I forget it?
    You may changed your password for Chat Watch at any time by clicking the Settings icon on Chat Watch's main screen. Then on the Settings window click Password. Forgotten or lost passwords can not be recovered. Please take time to remember your password.
