Deep Scan

The Deep Scan searches through the entire registry and finds invalid links for any filetype.

Safe Scan

The Safe Scan searches through the entire registry and only searches for invalid links for only the following filetypes:

*.exe, *.dll, *.ocx, *.vxd, *.ax, *.com, *.cpl, *.tlb, *.scr, *.bat, *.drv, *.msi, *.zip, *.rar, *.hlp, *.lnk, *.jpg, *.bmp, *.pdf, *.txt

Select Drive

This allows you to select a drive on your computer system. What this does is tell Registry Smoker that you want to search the registry for invalid links on the drive that you choose.

Begin Scan

Clicking this button will begin the scan process. Once the scan process begins, it becomes the "Stop Scan" button.

Right Click Context Menu

You can right click any item that is shown to be invalid and add it to the ignore list or view it in the registry editor.

    The error "Runtime Error '429' ActiveX Component Can't Create Object" is most likely caused by a program that is removing files that it isn't supposed to on uninstall. The program removed a component that is vital to XP Smoker.

    To fix this, reinstall XP Smoker. If you still get this error after reinstalling XP Smoker you may need the Visual Basic 6.0 runtime files, or yours may be corrupted. By default, Windows installs these files. However, if a programmer wrote a bad uninstaller for his program that you uninstalled, it would remove these important files. To get them back, you can download them from Microsoft at the link below.
