Frequently Asked Questions - Softick Card Export

  1. If I'm in Card Export and tap Home on the Tungsten, it always goes back to the contents of the SD Card (as opposed to the Tungsten ROM). Any way to change that? I only ask because it's easier to do one-handed navigation with the Tungsten closed.
You could check "Prevent switching to card view" in the Preference dialog on the device. Please note that menu and preferences is inaccessible while Card Export is connected to desktop.

  2. I just downloaded and installed Card Export on my Win XP Home system. I'm getting a message when I boot "Error loading Palm USB Driver Interface (usbport.dll). I have that file on my system and I have been synchronizing my Palm Tungsten T with the USB cradle. Can you offer any suggestions?
If Palm Desktop is already installed, please ensure that Card Export is able to locate usbport.dll from the Palm Desktop.

Please try to locate the usbport.dll in the Palm installation folder (e.g. C:\Palm) and copy it to your system32 folder (e.g. c:\windows\system32).

Also please check that Value "Path" in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core key points to correct Palm Desktop path.

  3. I cannot get Card Export to work on my Tungsten T. It seems to lock up the Palm and the PC as well. After installation, each time I tried to synchronize, I receive this error "A communication error has occurred. A USB Driver reported failure and Card Export is unable to recover USB link. Please try to re-connect device".
If desktop freezing you could try to wake it up by disconnecting Palm or removing a sd/mmc card. Check all items below.

    • Check whether you are using latest Card Export (1.07) available from the web site. Earlier versions had had problems on some configurations.
    • Check whether you able to perform standard HotSync synchronization over USB connection.
    • Also please check that you do not overclock your PDA (Afterburner, FastCPU and so on).
    • This problem often might be caused by unreliable USB connection especially when you are using an USB hub to connect your Tungsten. So, check whether you use any USB hub, or third party USB controllers.
    • Check whether you use any hacks.
    • Check whether you use multiprocessor desktop computer.

  4. Would it be possible for your application to emulate a USB mass storage drive? This way drivers do not need to be installed on the main machine and it is automatically supported by Win2K, WinXP, Mac OS, and so on.
Current version can't emulate USB Mass Storage, but we are developing 2.0 which will have this feature.

  5. I'm trying your Card Export and it worked great with the first card I put in it. However, my 2000 laptop doesn't refresh when I put a different SD card in.
Change a cards without disconnecting Card Export. In this case windows should correctly determinate media change.

  6. After connecting and disconnecting when I attempt to leave the application I am cycled back to the card Export screen. I will need to perform a soft reset in order to leave the application.
Please check "Prevent switching to card view" option in Preference dialog or just remove the card before quitting Card Export.

  7. After disconnecting, the drive does not disappear from the Windows desktop, it just shows as if there is no disk in the drive. Using Windows 2000.
This behaviour is by design. Card Export 1.03 kills drive letter when card is gone, but on Windows 2000 this causes a "Unsafe device removal" dialog. So to prevent this annoying dialog it doesn't destroy drive in current version.
