Screenshots - More Details

New Features in 4.5:
  • Export multiple keys to one .REG file. Previous versions were limited to exporting only one key at a time.
  • The Web Lookup feature was enhanced to include the 'Windows Registry Guide' web site as one of the lookup sources.
  • New feature allows you to export all your registry bookmarks for easy transfer from one computer to another.
  • New Windows XP look.
  • The 'Computers' dialog now supports multiple selections. Allow you to easily remove multiple computers from the list.
Searching the Registry

Searching the Windows Registry is one of the primary functions of Registry Crawler. The first page of the main screen is dedicated to searching.
You type in a word or phrase you'd like to find in the Registry in the "Search For" field and hit the "Go" button. Before starting the search you can specify which Registry hives to search under. You can also specify if Registry Crawler should look in Keys, Values or Data. In addition to defining "Where to search" you can specify "How to search".

This includes options for case sensitive searches and exact word match. After specifying the search criteria (which is saved from session to session) you click the 'Go' button and watch as the 'Search Results' list displays the keys that match. The search can be aborted any time by clicking the 'Cancel' button.
When a search is completed, a list of all the matches is displayed. The following operations can be performed on each of the keys displayed:
  • Goto Key - This operation will cause the REGEDIT tool to be launched setting it to the selected key. Goto Key is not supported on a remote computer.
  • Bookmark - Book marking a key allows us to later access it from the "Bookmarks" page. A bookmark has a name and points to a registry key. 'Bookmark' is not supported on a remote computer.
  • Export Key - This operation allows you to export one or more Registry Keys into a single .REG file. The file can later be used by REGEDIT to import the key. 'Export Key' is not supported on keys found on a remote computer.
  • Copy to Clipboard - This operation will copy the selected Registry key(s) to the Windows Clipboard.
  • Edit Data - This operation will open a small window, which allows you to edit Registry data without going to REGEDIT. Registry Crawler support editing of strings and numeric values (DWORD) only. For binary data you will have to press the 'Goto' Key and use REGEDIT.
  • Delete - This operation allows you to delete a Registry Key, Value or Data. You can select multiple Registry entries and delete them in one operation.
  • Details - Clicking 'Details' will open a small window containing detailed information about the selected Registry entry.
  • Replace - This operation allows you to replace data or values in the Registry. You can select multiple entries in the 'Search Results' list and then change them using the 'Replace' feature. 'Replace' works only with Registry values & data - it does not work with Registry keys.
  • Lookup - Lookup allows you to search the Internet for a key or value displayed in the "Search Results" list. The current version allows you to search Usenet (Web newsgroups) as well as other sites that specialize in Registry issues. Often you'll be able to find posts by Usenet users, explaining what the key or value does and how to configure it.
All of the above operations can be initiated via a button located to the right of the 'Search Results' list or by using the pop-up menu that is displayed when you right click the list.
