How to use Sothink SWF Decompiler

  1. Choose one swf file in Sothink SWF Decompiler. It will be shown in the Preview window. By default, when you choose the Flash file, Sothink SWF Decompiler begins to analyze it and gather its components in groups. You can see the rate of processing in the status bar.

  2. When Sothink SWF Decompiler finishes the procession, it will list all the elements consisting this swf file on the right-hand. It groups them into: Shape, Image, Sound, Font, Text, Sprite, Button and Frame.

  3. If a folder contains sub-contents, a [+] appears next to the folder icon. You can expand the folder to show the contents by clicking on the [+].

  4. When you expand a folder, you will see the elements. Click on each to view or play them one by one.

  5. In front of every element or folder, there is a square box. You can choose the element you want to export by checking this square box.

  6. Then click "Export" button. The Export dialog will pop up. Please select a folder where you want to store and click OK to finish.

  7. Sothink SWF Decompiler will create a folder in the same name with this swf file. You can find the exported files within this folder.

  1. How to capture a Flash movie in an IE pop-up Window?
    When you see a Flash movie in IE pop up Window, please do as following to capture it:
    1. Open a new blank IE browser Window.
    2. Drag the IE icon from pop-up Window's address bar to this new Window.
    3. And you will find the Flash movie is opened in this new Window.
    4. Now you can launch Sothink SWF Decompiler to catch it.

  2. How to catch Flash movie from Pop-up window in Firefox browser?
    You can also catch Flash movies from Pop-up window in Firefox browser. Following is the solution:
    1. Put the mouse cursor on the pop-up window and right click your mouse, select "About Macromedia Flash Player 8..." Then you will see the pop-up window become the Tag mode.
    2. Open a new blank Firefox Window and drag the Tag of pop-up window to this window.
    3. And you will find the Flash movie is opened in this new Window.
    4. Now you can use Sothink SWF Catcher to capture the Flash movie.


  3. Can I use Sothink SWF Decompiler to export the text in SWF file into *.txt format? If so, how?
    Yes, Sothink SWF Decompiler MX 2005c and above versions support exporting text in SWF file into *.txt format. After open the SWF file in the program, please check the text element in Resource panel and then click "Export Resource" button. In Export Resource Dialog, you can see the file format for Text is selected to be *.txt format. If not, please choose Text (*.txt) option manually. Then you can export Text resource in *.txt format.

  4. How do I export a shape?
    In Resource panel, please click on the [+] in front of Shape folder to expand it and show the contents. Click any shape to view it. Then pick the shape you want to export by checking the square box in front of it. Last, click the "Export..." button and select a directory to save. Now you have exported the shape successfully. Sothink SWF Decompiler supports exporting the shape in *.swf or *.gls format. You can choose either during exporting. The shape file in *.gls format can be used in Sothink Glanda.

  5. How do I export an image?
    To export an image by using Sothink SWF Decompiler, please click on the [+] in front of Image folder to expand it and show all the image files used in this SWF file. Click any image file to show it in preview Window. Then pick the image you want by checking the square box in front of it. Last, click the "Export..." button and choose a valid save path. Now you have exported the image successfully. Sothink SWF Decompiler supports exporting the image in jpg, bmp or png format. You can choose any one during exporting.

  6. How do I export a sound?
    To export a Sound from a SWF file using Sothink SWF Decompiler, please click on the [+] of Sound folder to expand it. Select a Sound and Sothink SWF Decompiler will play it. Then pick the sound you want by checking the square box in front of it. Last, please click the "Export..." button from the tool bar and select a valid save directory. The file will be saved in the required format (.mp3 or .wav). You can choose either during exporting.

  7. Can I export all files at once?
    Yes, Sothink SWF Decompiler supports to export all components of a SWF file at once. If you are using a registered version, you can select all folders by checking the square box in front of them and click "Export..." to get all of them at once. If this SWF file is a little large, it will take more times to export.

  8. How do I export a font/text/sprite/button/frame?
    In Resource panel, please click on the [+] of Font/Text/Sprite/Button/Frame folder to expand it and display the contents. Click any component to view it. Then pick the one you like by checking the square box in front of it. Last, click the "Export Resource" button and select a directory to save. Now you have exported them successfully. The font, text, sprite, button, frame will be exported in .swf format. So as to edit the movie again, you also can click "Export FLA" to convert the Flash movie to FLA format.

  9. Why can I only export the first and second files of each group?
    Because you are using the trial version of Sothink SWF Decompiler. This limitation is only for trial version. After you register it, you can export files as much as you like.

  10. What's the *.gls file and how can I use it?
    When you export a shape file, Sothink SWF Decompiler will let you select to save the file in *.swf or *.gls format. The *.gls format is exclusive for Sothink Glanda. When you export a shape file in such format, you can use this shape in Glanda. In detail, after you export the shape as *.gls file, please open Sothink Glanda and click "Shape" button to see the shape panel. In this panel, click the drop-down list and choose the folder where you saved the *.gls file. Then this file will be shown and you can use it in Sothink Glanda.

  11. Is there a MAC version?
    Sorry, currently we only supply the Windows version.

  12. Why did I not see the SWF Catcher icon on my IE toolbar?
    Please check if you installed Sothink SWF Quicker with all your IE Windows closed. If not, please reinstall the program with all IE closed.
    If you customized your toolbar before, your toolbar will not show any newly-added toolbar buttons. Please go to View>Toolbar>Customize in IE to add SWF Catcher button from Available Toolbar Buttons to Current Toolbar Buttons. Thus, the SWF Catcher icon will show on your IE toolbar.
