Frequently Asked Questions - Pocket DVD Wizard

  1. What about the Pocket Pc?
Generally speaking, you will need approximately 1Mb of memory card space per minute of video converted, so if you have a 30 minute TV recording, you would need approximately 30Mb of memory card space on your device or card. If you have an older Pocket PC, you may still be able to use the Pocket DVD Wizard, but will need to select the Windows CE settings in the software, and install a MPG player on your Pocket PC, such as Pocket TV. Once the conversion has finished, you can transfer the file to your Pocket PC like any other file. Most users choose Active Sync. .

  2. Will it work with my Portable Media Center?
Support for the Portable Media Center players, such as the Creative Labs Zen PMC, or iRiver PMP-120 was added in version 2.6. This is a free upgrade to existing users, and adds new options specifically for the Portable Media Centers for both DVD, and mpeg / avi video conversions.

  3. Will the Pocket DVD Wizard work with high resolution, VGA Pocket PC's?
The upgrade to this version is free for all customers who have purchased version 2 (all later versions include support), simply visit the members page to obtain a new key for the later version, and obtain the download link for the latest version your license allows (Version 2.7 for V2 customers).

  4. The online help link uses frames, which my browser does not support. How can I view the help file without downloading the Pocket DVD Wizard ?
The best way to view the help file is by pressing the 'F1' key at any time in the Pocket DVD Wizard software to bring up the help file. If you would like to view the help file without downloading and installing the Pocket DVD Wizard, there is a copy available for download in PDF format here.

  5. I am getting an error message saying the audio format is not supported, followed by the letters DTS. What does this mean, and how can I get past it?
Some DVDs use a format called DTS as their primary sound source. The Pocket DVD Wizard does not support DTS decoding, however every disc we have seen that has DTS, also has a separate audio channel in a format the Pocket DVD Wizard can decode. If you ignore this error message, then when the DVD is playing back, click the 'Options' item in the menu bar and select 'Global Input Settings'. Then, look for the Audio Settings and the and the Track, and change this to a line with AC3 or AAC (almost anything other than DTS) and click OK. You DVD should then convert correctly. On the next dvd you convert, select the options and global input setting again, and select 'default' to put the settings back to normal.

  6. When I backup a DVD, the audio is jumping, or skipping every few seconds. What can I do?
Some DVDs contain unusual audio tracks that do not respond well to standard compression. Fortunately these are few and far between, and there is a solution. Start the DVD that you have problems with, and select the track as you would normally. Then when the preview is active, click on the options tab and select 'Global Input Settings'. A new screen should appear with a lot of options. At the top right of this screen you should see a check box, with the label 'Force 24 Hz'. You need to remove the check (or tick) from this box, then click the OK button. This should then fix your problem.

  7. I would like to remove the intro video that is added to the start of every clip I convert. Can I do this?
The intro video clip can be removed in the registered version of the software. Start the Pocket DVD Wizard and select your DVD, then when the DVD is playing back select 'options' from the menu bar and then select 'include trailer video' to remove the check or tick by the option. The trailer video will then be removed from all future conversions.
