Frequently Asked Questions - 123 DVD Converter

  1. Why I cannot see all the movie titles?
Open the "Settings" window, uncheck the "Only Copy the Main Movie of the IFO File" box in the "Advanced Options" page.

  2. Which is the best output format?
The DVD copied and compressed by XviD is of high quality and only takes up 1/10 original DVD space. To output DivX format, you need to install the XviD Codec. Please follow the instruction.

    1. Launch 123 DVD Converter.
    2. Set the output format as AVI (DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4...) from the drop list of "Output Format".
    3. Reload your DVD.
    4. Set the AVI video codec as "XviD" (Settings >> AVI Settings >> Video Codec).

  3. 123 DVD Converter takes over 6 hours to rip a simple movie, am I doing something wrong?
Ripping DVD is always a time consuming job. It is slower than real time. You may not find any other ripper software faster than 123 DVD Converter with the same settings.
If you want it faster, please rip DVD with XviD codec (See Q3), and set a lower resolution, such as 352*288.

  4. I just want to rip a portion of a DVD, how?
You can just rip the movie clips you want. In the Copy Mode area, select Chapter or Movie clip.

  5. Everytime I try to convert DVD to AVI(DivX) it switch to converting to VCD instead. Why?
You need to select a movie title first. Click on the title that you want, and you'll see the title is highlighted, then select "AVI (DivX)" from the drop list of "Output Format". Or use the shortcut menu to change the output format.

  6. How can I check/uncheck all the movie titles? How can i set the output file name?
Right click the mouse button on a title item to pop up the shortcut menu. With this menu, you can conveniently set the name of the output file, select target format, check or uncheck titles.

  7. My DVD drive cannot play DVD after installing 123 DVD Converter? What's wrong?
123 DVD Converter automatically installs the latest version of the ASPI driver during installation. If your software DVD player doesn't support the latest version of ASPI, it won't work. You don't have to uninstall 123 DVD Converter, just reinstall your DVD player software to restore ASPI.

  8. What's the difference between .IFO and .VOB files?
The .IFO (and backup .BUP) files contain menus and other information about the video and audio, you can treat it as the index of the media content. The .VOB files (for DVD-Video) and .AOB files (for DVD-Audio) are MPEG-2 program streams with additional packets containing navigation and search information.
