Audio Settings: Audio Codec

Audio codec is pre-defined in each of the profile you've selected. Usually, you don't need to change this field.

Audio Bitrate (in Kbits per second)

Audio bitrate refers to how much data is allocated to store audio signals. The higher audio bitrate, the better audio quality. There are some other factors that influence the audio quality as well, such as audio sampling below.

Audio Sampling (in Hz)

Audio sampling means how frequently an audio sample is retrieved per second.

The average human ear can hear sounds in the frequency range 20-20000Hz. To reproduce a sound at a given frequency, the audio sampling rate must be more than twice that frequency. An audio sampling frequency of 44100Hz is normally good enough to have cut-offs above normal human hearing range. (Telephone lines use 8000Hz audio sampling. It is good enough for human voice, but not enough for music with high frequencies. )

Audio Channels

1 means Mono; 2 means stereo.

Audio Volume:

You can change output audio volume in "Options" menu -> "Output Settings" dialog. The default volume level is 5 (original volume).

Video Codec

Video codec is pre-defined in each of the profile you've selected. Usually, you don't need to change this field.

Video Size (Width x Height)

This field describes the size of each video frame in pixels, also called video resolution.

Video Bitrate (in Kbits per second)

Video bitrate refers to how much data is allocated to store motion pictures. For the same video codec, the higher video bitrate, the better video quality. Bitrate under different codecs are not comparable. Some codec like h264 or WMV9 can achieve the same video quality by using half of the video bitrate other codec requires.

FPS (Frames Per Second):

This field refers to the number of pictures displayed per second in order to form continuous motions. 24 fps is quite enough to get more a continous motion. And for portable video devices, 15 fps is all good in most cases.
