Running a multi cam system

If you have 2, 3 or 4 webcams, then you can have 2, 3 or 4 instances of Cam Wizard running at the same time on your PC, each instance can be configured to use the relevant video source in the video setup screen.

If you look in the start menu for cam wizard as shown on the right, you will notice program shortcuts for 3 different cams.

This method for multi cam use gives you great flexibility as you can configure each of the instances of Cam Wizard to archive to different folders, email to different addresses, etc.

The screenshot on the right shows three instances of Cam Wizard running on the desktop.

Browse captured videos

The screen shot on the right shows the windows explorer window that opens when the user clicks the "browse captured video" button.

The videos are all in WMV format and will play just fine with Windows Media Player.

Many other security cam software solutions require special software to view the captured movies, Cam Wizard uses a standard highly compressed windows format (.WMV) so you can watch it on any windows computer.

Shoot a quick video

The user should take these steps to shoot a quick timestamped video:

  1. Line up your shot using the video window to see what you're doing, much like you would a regular still camera.

  2. In Cam Wizards main window press the "shoot a video" button, this will cause the movie to start recording into a WMV file. The WMV file will be named "SHOOT_timesatamp.wmv" and it will appear in the "Browse Video" folder.

  3. Press the "stop shooting" button after you have filmed the desired action shot.

Frequently Asked Questions - Cam Wizard

  1. What type of web cam do you recommend for using with Cam Wizard?
Cam wizard should work with any webcam. We have found that the Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 gives excellent results with fairly good low light performance.

  2. I would like to view my camwizard camera via the internet whilst I'm at work. Our corporate network allows internet access but via Autoproxy. I have tried digi-watcher and I can not use it's HTTP server to see my cam via work as it needs sockets info which is not provided( we use Autoproxy). Will camwizard work?
Yes, If you can browse the internet at work , then you will be able to view your Cam Wizard Cams at work. I recommend trying the free trial version. The trial version shuts off after 3 hours so you will have to set it going just before you head to work, test the URL on your home PC and then try accessing your Cam Wizard URL from your work PC.

  3. Are there other hardware only alternatives to Cam Wizard?
Cam Wizard is just one solution amongst many to give you 24/7 motion captured surveillance. You could instead invest in a real analogue CCTV system with time lapse cassette storage, however, these systems tend to give temperemental video quality.

For alot less cash and hassle you could invest in a cheap second hand PC (or a bargain laptop 150) that you could use just for Cam Wizard. The Cam Wizard system is more flexible and gives better results than a tape system, it also requires less maintenance and it only records motion which it does so at a solid 30FPS, with email send capability to boot.

  4. I would like to save videos to my local hard drive and to a network drive, is there a way to save videos to two locations rather than just one?
Yes, this is possible, if you run this directory mirror application alongside Cam Wizard, you can configure the application to mirror Cam Wizards capture directory to any storage path of your choice.
