Capturing/Viewing Images

Most users of Web Cam upload their images to a server, allowing the entire Internet to view the images. However, this is not your only option. You may also use Web Cam to take single pictures, saving them to your computer.

To take a picture, use Tools->Take Picture, or use the hot-key Control-G. This picture will automatically be saved to your computer, into a folder called Grabs.

You can view all of your captured images by clicking on View->Show/Hide Gallery. You can then delete or upload these images from the gallery, as you see fit. Just right click on the image, and you will be shown a list of actions you can take on that image.

Adding a Caption

Using WebCam, you have the option to add captions to your images. You may want to add a caption to keep a time stamp on your image. Or, if you embed your name of your site as the caption in the image, anyone who downloads a copy of your image will know it is from your site.

To embed a caption on your image, click on the Image settings button. The caption setting is found on the first tab. First, make sure the Enable Caption box is checked.

Now you can specify the caption text, style, and location. By clicking on the preview button, you will see an example how your caption will appear.

You can even add a time stamp that will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Make an HTML Page

Once you are able to Upload your images to your server, then next step is uploading an HTML page to display the images. WebCam can create this page for you, just click on the Make HTML button to start the process.

Standard HTML page- This is a basic web page designed for Web Cam images. The page will automatically refresh every 30 seconds, allowing viewers to see the most recent image uploaded to your site.

Pop-up HTML page- Similar to the Standard HTML page, except that the WebCam page will be set as a pop up link instead of a regular HTML page. You will find a Pop-Up link Page (pop_link.html) in the folder you choose to upload to. Pop_link.html contains gives an example on how to make your WebCam page "pop up." You can modify this page to match your website's look and feel.

WebCam Buddies page- This page will display your WebCam image, as well as up to 7 WebCam images found on other pages. All you need to do is specify the http address of your friend's images. Like the Standard HTML page, this page will automatically refresh.

Just Show Me the HTML code- If you are familiar with HTML, and want to modify the page, select this option. It will show the Standard HTML page, allowing you to copy and paste the code to an editing program, where you can modify and upload on your own.

Frequently Asked Questions - CoffeeCup WebCam

  1. Why do I get an Error Message when Webcam tries to Upload an Image Capture?
These are server return errors generated when the software attempts to connect to your web server. Double check your FTP Settings for inaccurate log in entries, most people with this problem have the wrong host name or remote directory listed.

  2. What is the Difference Between the Trial Version and the Registered Version?
Obviously, the trial period will be removed, so you have unlimited use of the program. The functionality of the software is the same.

  3. How Do I Display the Last Five Images on My Website?
To display the last five images on your webpage, copy and paste this code into your HTML document. Remember to change the height and width of your images to make them small enough to fit on your page.

  4. How do I Configure a Proxy Server?
If you connect to the Internet using a proxy server, you will need to configure this in WebCam before you connect to the ftp host. To access the proxy server settings, first click on the FTP settings button, then on the Advanced Settings tab.

  5. Why won't the Camera Cycler Recognize Multiple Webcams?
This sometimes occurs with several cameras of alike make and model. The hardware developers will sometimes have them use the same registry settings which will make it appear as though you only have one camera operational to third party programs as our own. To circumvent this problem, you can use different cameras. If you wish to continue using the same cameras, you might be able to edit your windows registry listings so that each camera has a separate registry entry; however this is not supported and has not been tested.

  6. Where is the Crowdburst Feature in the New Versions of Webcam?
The chat software that came with the webcam was supported by a third party that was bought by a larger company and has since been discontinued.
