Frequently Asked Questions - HTMLCompact

  1. Why the compressed page was exactly the same size as the original page?
HTMLCompact uses "dictionary-based" compression algorithm to compress HTML source code. More duplicate words in your original page, higher compression ratio you may get after compression. But if the original page is too small, size of the processed page will be larger than original one. When this happens, HTMLCompact will just copy original page as output file so that the "compression ratio" within "Result" tab is "100%" finally. To achieve good compression ratio with HTMLCompact, please try some fairly large HTML pages with it.

  2. With HTMLCompact can search engines index my page correctly?
As using JavaScript based compression method, if a web page is compressed by using HTMLCompact, its HTML source code will be converted to JavaScript code which can't be indexed by search engines. To solve this problem a bit, you may choose "Compress BODY section" as "Compression Mode" during compression process. In that case all META tags in original page will be kept untouched so that search engine bots will have the chance to read and index all of the META keywords and description correctly.
