Robots.txt generator

The Robots Exclusion Protocol is a method that allows Web site administrators to indicate to visiting robots which parts of their site should not be visited by the robot. Before indexing your site, the spider downloads robots.txt file that contains instructions on what should and what should not be indexed. Therefore a key to controlling spiders is robots.txt file. If you have a large website or update it frequently, creating and editing it will be a hard and dull work.

Robots.txt Editor is an easy-to-navigate visual editor that will enable you to specify different directives for selected spiders in specific areas of the site and generate the robots.txt file quickly and easily.

The robots.txt file is just a simple text file, containing instructions for search engine robots. There are different types of instructions: for individual robots, for all robots, for certain folders, for file types, etc. The file can be created using a simple text editor like notepad or wordpad, but it is very difficult to create such file manually and not to make a mistake somewhere.

There are two tabs in on this module: Spider List tab and Disallow tab.

On the Spider tab you can view names of all robots that are in the program database (176 altogether). There are three fields for each robot. You can group robots alphabetically by any of these fields by clicking on the column header.

Frequently Asked Questions - Page Promoter

  1. I have downloaded Page Promoter to work in a demo mode and tried to launch it. But the computer generated an error: RPC server not available. What should I do?
The program does not query such servers when working - it's Windows that does.

  2. Everything used to work smoothly, but after our system administrator has installed a firewall in our office Spider module does not work, although Ranking Utility works as it used to before. What is the main difference between the two modules?
Most probably the firewall is not correctly set up. After you correct the firewall settings the problem should disappear. There is no difference between the two modules, but the firewall may interpret their requests differently.

  3. Which firewall port should I open for the correct work of Page Promoter?
Page Promoter uses the same ports as an ordinary Internet browser, there are no special settings.

  4. Can I transfer a project from one computer to another?
Save the folder "projects", which is located in the folder C:\Program Files\Page Promoter.com\db and files project.pdb, project.res and then place them in the corresponding folder on another machine.

  5. Where should I enter the e-mail addresses of all recipients in the Reports module?
Enter them in the E-mail reports recipients field, pressing Enter key after each one.

  6. How can I remove certain pages from the submit list? What if there are many pages I want to remove?
Go to the Spider module and select multiple pages using Ctrl, Shift buttons or just select them with the mouse. Then delete them with the Delete button.
