The program` features unorthodox yet intuitive interface. A detailed view of the icon you`re working with takes up the most screen real estate, surrounded by a selection of common editing tools. A search function scans your PC for available icons to edit, and you can import various graphics. As for features, Easy Icon Maker gives you a lot to work with. Besides letting you alter basic attributes such as color and size, the app has a nice arsenal of effects, including sharpening, softening, embossing, and inverting. it even allows working with channels and set transparency to alpha channel. On the whole, Easy Icon Maker is a nice editing program that will be useful to Web designers or to anyone else who routinely works with icons. Great experience. Easy Icon Maker 5.01 Reviewed by Debra C. Peterson on Jun 5, 2009 Hi! Love this software. I have to make custom icons for software I compile and constantly modify for our customers. Your program is by far the best I've used. It has a good GUI and utilities. I just downloaded your latest today, however used to run a much older version of it a few years back. As far as features for new software: - You used to have a single tool called, "buttonize," that would put a shadowed border around your icon. This might be available in the version I downloaded today, but I did not immediately see it. I can do it manually/graphically, but the one-click solution was great. - The Text utility is plenty serviceable, however a little difficult to negotiate. You have to try several different font sizes to get the look you need. If you choose one the wrong size, you have to, "undo," until you get it right. Again, this is not a show stopper. But....possibilities are: a. Object layering/floating with managing handles (size/stretch/rotation). This is pretty complex stuff to build in, and really not all that necessary. It might not appeal to general users unless they've worked with some fairly robust graphics software previously. I use a vector/graphics suite to add my text to the image first at present. Others that want this swoopy appeal may already do the same. b. How about a Text Preview pop-up window showing your icon with drop downs for font and size selection, so you can see your text on the icon and easily change it without undo/redo? Then, when you're happy with the text placement and sizing, you select an, "add to icon," type function. Great software, as it is. Thanks, Debra C.
