The Comodo Internet Security 4.1 is far the best free antivirus and far better than most payed.
It pass Eicar test and would pass near 100% of 6000 virus files just to test.
But if you want to test by your self and look which antivirus do the job I recomend you to use this site to download the samples from here http://vx.netlux.org/vl.php
and after send them to here http://www.virustotal.com/
After you test a few you will be surprised how bad some antivirus really are. Test yours.
The Comodo so far so good I hope that they keep the good work and don?'t let pass ANY KEYLOGGER.

Although a good virus detection program, it renders your computer useless while performing a system scan. It consumes 100% of the CPU and essentially hijacks your computer until it is done scanning. Aborting a full scan locks the program up and you cannot use task manager to end it, leaving you to resort to hitting the power button. Even on startup, the Comodo agent consumes 100% of the processor.

Ia�?ve used various versions before with less system degradation, but the current version (4.0.138377.779) is an absolute failure. Then again, if you cana�?t use your computer, you must be safera�|

Easy to install & configure - has been extremely useful in identifying attack sites - realtime scanning is excellent

This is better than other big names that charges me every years. No fuss, easy maintenace, keep updating it's virus database. I want nothing else!
