  5. What is Secure Erasing?
    When you delete a file from Windows, Windows just mark the file as deleted in file allocation table, but the data of the file is still in your hard disk, there are many tools available which can let others easily recover your sensitive files. Windows Eraser can overwrite file with character zeros, ones and random numbers, and you can set the number of times to use the erasing methods on the file. Please Note: The US Department of Defense recommends 3 overwrites, NSA recommends 7 overwrites. The more times you set to overwrites the file, the longer the erasing cycle will take. Usually, the default 1 times (3 passes) is enough.
    Windows Eraser implements the US Department of Defense DOD 5220.22-M and NSA clearing and sanitizing standard, once deleted with Windows Eraser, your file data is gone forever and can not be recovered.


  6. Why the some browser history still there after erasing?
    It is strongly recommended that you shutdown all the programs that you want to erase, because some tracks can not be erased when these programs are running. For MSN, AOL and Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox, even you close all the windows of them, maybe their icons still on the system tray (lower right of the screen). Please check the system tray (lower right of your screen) to see if there is an icon of them, if you can find, you need to right click on it and close it before cleaning.

  7. What is index.dat?
    This file used for folders: Temporary Internet Files, History, Cookies and more... It locked by system and can not be deleted. It contain information about files which cached. It do not contain files, but list of locations for them.
