Frequently Asked Questions - DVD-TO-SVCD

  1. Why I get "ASPI error..." message?
DVD-to-SVCD need ASPI to support CD burning, if you get "ASPI error..." message, please restart your Windows and try again. Or update your ASPI driver to a newer version. (You can find the newest driver by searching "aspi32.exe" at any search engine such as Yahoo, Google. Sometimes maybe you need "forceaspi").

Note: please install the above ASPI drivers (V4.60) only, don't use other versions; DVD-to-SVCD doesn't work with other versions!!!

If DVD-to-SVCD still doesn't work and you are running windows XP, there are 2 options:

1: Right click on the Executable file and select Properties then click the compatibility tab and run this program in 'compatibility mode for Windows 2000'

2: Click start, run and type wowpost.exe and press enter as wowpost tickles aspi into startup state and DVD-to-SVCD will then find your drives.

  2. Why I keep getting "No hard disk space..." message?
DVD-to-SVCD use the TEMP directory of Windows to store temp files, you can set the TEMP directory to a larger drive. In Windows 98, append 2 lines to c:\autoexec.bat, while X:\TEMP is a temp directory of the new drive, and then restart Windows: SET TMP=X:\TEMP; SET TEMP=X:\TEMP.

In Windows NT/2000/XP, use control panel->system->Advance tab, click Environment Variables, then click the TMP and TEMP user variable or system variable, click Edit to change the current value to the directory on larger drive.

  3. DVD-to-SVCD show wrong drive letters!
If DVD-to-SVCD show wrong letter with your CD/DVD ROMs, please change the drive letters of your CD/DVD ROMs by the order DVD-to-SVCD shows.

Under Windows 9x, open Control Panel->System->CROM to change them.

Under Windows NT/2000/XP, use Administrative Tools->Computer Management-> Storage->Disk Management. And please disable any special software before start DVD-to-SVCD: e.g. Virtual CD drive, Cygwin, RAM disk etc.

  4. The VCD can't be played!
First, please check if there is a file named mpegav\avseq01.dat or mpeg2\avseq01.mpg on the VCD/SVCD. Then play the VCD/SVCD with software players such as Power DVD, Win DVD. Or play it with a CDR/CDRW COMPATIBLE standalone DVD player.

  5. Why I get "MSVCP60.DLL, MFC42.DLL error..." message?
That may because you are running an old version of Windows. Please install the most update service packs of windows and upgrade your IE to V5.5 or later. Or upgrade your msvcp60.dll and mfc42.dll.

  6. Why I get "Can't open DVD..." message?
Sometimes you may get a message like "Can not open DVD! Please use a DVD player (e.g. Power DVD, Win DVD) to play the Disc for 1 minute and try again!", this means your DVD drive is locked, so use a DVD player software(PowerDVD/WinDVD etc.) to open the DVD and the DVD drive will be unlocked. Then exit the player, start DVD-to-SVCD to backup the movie to VCD/SVCDs.
