Data Backup with Allway Sync

Unlike classic backup solutions, Allway Sync works by copying data both ways (all ways), Each synchronized folder always contains a copy of its other synchronization-partner folders. So, effortless backup is a natural result of synchronization.

Forget the regular backup/restore routine. Just synchronize document folders on primary computer with any backup device. The backup device can also be used for instant read/write access to your data.

You can use a local drive or another computer in network as your backup device. Using a separate physical device provides protection in case of hard drive mechanical failure.

Another option is to backup to a miniature removable device (USB key, Flash drive, MP3 player, digital photo camera, etc). Then, your documents are always with you, ready to view or modify. With synchronized replicas of your data on your home or office system, losing your USB drive isn't a disaster--you still have copies on your primary system.

Frequently Asked Questions - Allway Sync

  1. Do I need to uninstall the old version before installing a new one?
No, not unless you want to install in a different folder. Unless otherwise noted, the new version retains options and settings from the previous one.

  2. What happens if a network connection drops during synchronization?
You won't lose any files. When Allway Sync replaces a file, first it copies it to a temporary file in the destination folder. Only after the copy operation completes successfully, the program replaces the target file with the temporary one. So, in the case of a connection failure only the temporary file is affected. Just synchronize again when the connection is restored.

  3. How does the application handle deleted files and folders?
Allway Sync recognizes that you deleted a file or a folder from one location and deletes it from the other. You can optionally disable propagation of file deletions.

  4. Why does my spyware-protection application say that Allway Sync may contain spyware?
Allway Sync may be configured to check for software updates from time to time. Because this activity is similar to that of some malicious software, the spyware-protection package is warning you that there may be a problem.

  5. What kind of data does Allway Sync keep synchronized?
The primary goal is to help you safeguard and transfer your most valuable data: the files that you create yourself (directly or indirectly)--they cannot be replaced by anyone else. These include your MS Office documents, pictures, text files, contacts, password manager data or any other files your applications work with. We do this by distributing a reliable application that provides enhanced data synchronization services. Data replication between multiple computers or with a removable drive allows you to use and modify those files when and where you want: at home, in the office, on a business trip, etc. As an added bonus, you get data backup with no extra effort.

It's a good idea to synchronize some application data files, too. For example, you may want to add Internet Explorer favorites at work and see them at home and vise-versa. Just synchronize the Internet Explorer favorites directories on both computers with a USB drive. The IE favorites folder is usually located at C:\Documents and Settings\[your_user_name]\Favorites.

Of course, synchronization of other types of data works, too. Synchronize an archive of downloaded software between your desktop PC and your laptop over a local network before you leave home. You can then install and use that software in flight. Or, perhaps you'd like to keep your media file collection in sync among all your computers and media player devices, such as MP3 players.
