Detailed Description of Argus 1.0

Argus is a comprehensive data transfer system for simultaneous multiple-line work in Dial-up and TCP/IP networks.

The main task of the Argus system is automatic data reception and transmission.

Argus Features:

* True Multitasking
The major advantage, multitasking, gives Argus the possibility of using system resources with maximum performance (especially on multi-processor systems) because most of the communication processes can be divided into parallel ones. At the same time, separate threads for handling events and reading and writing communication data make it possible for Argus to work with minimum system load, so all other tasks running can function without any delay.

* Multiple-line Work
Argus is a true multi-line mailing system, that's why line configuration and coordination are so quick and easy. There are no special limitations to the number of concurrent connections, it depends only on users' possibilities and requirements. Data transfer with a node can be established either via Dial-up or via TCP/IP, this is determined by transport availability. Dial-up lines can be started automatically at Argus startup or manually by typing System / Open Dial-up Line menu command. Each dial-up line requires a communication port, so the number of simultaneously active lines in a system is limited by the number of ports. TCP/IP lines are created and managed by the TCP/IP Daemon. When Argus detects an incoming TCP/IP connection or a new poll via TCP/IP in the Poll Manager, the Daemon creates a new mailing system line and starts a file transfer protocol.

* Extended TCP/IP Support
Argus supports WinSocket 2.0 protocol-independent transport interface that allows working seamlessly with a number of transport protocols such as TCP/IP, X.25 etc., using protocol-independent symbolic host name resolution (not only DNS, but also SAP, X.500 etc.,), Win32-overlapped input/output modes, shared sockets, conditional acceptance etc.
