The tutorial will show you how to decomplie CHM file and create HTML Help with Pocket CHM. Pocket CHM is a very convenient tool for creating HTML Help, manuals and ebooks in CHM format. Additionally, it can decompile CHM files and extract all resource files from them! More attractively, it can open and edit CHM files directly!

1. How to decomplie a CHM file with Pocket CHM?

  1. From Tools menu, select Decompile. The decompile dialog opens.
  2. Click upper Browse... to select the .CHM file that you want to decompile.
  3. Click lower Browse... to select a local folder for the output.
  4. To decompile the .CHM file you selected, click OK.
  5. To cancel the action, click Cancel.

2. How to create HTML Help with Pocket CHM?

Step1 Adding topic files
Adding topic files is the first task you should to do. The easiest way to add topic files is to use the mouse to drag and drop files onto the Contents window from the built-in Resource Explorer (see Figure 1) or Windows Resource Explorer or Windows Find Dialog.

You can also use the mouse to drag and drop files onto the Index window and Files window from the built-in Resource Explorer or Windows Resource Explorer or Windows Find Dialog.

Step2 Compile to CHM
After all topic files are added, you can execute the Compile to CHM command to generate the HTML Help file (.CHM file). From the Tools menu, select Compile to CHM. -Or- On the toolbar, click Compile to CHM.

What is CHM?

CHM means 'Compiled Windows HTML Help files'. It is a set of technologies for delivering help and Web contents using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). HTML Help is designed for authors or developers who create contents for software programs, multimedia titles, intranets, extranets, or for the Internet. HTML Help provides navigational controls that enable users to easily find and sort information. HTML Help also provides a set of tools that assist authors in creating and organizing contents delivered with the navigational controls.
